Course Overview

Lead environmental audits with confidence — to the latest standard

3FOLD Training's CQI and IRCA certified ISO 14001:2026 EMS Lead Auditor Course (PR376) gives you the knowledge and practical skills to plan, conduct, report and follow up first-, second- and third-party audits of environmental management systems. The course is delivered against ISO 14001:2026, in accordance with ISO 19011 and ISO/IEC 17021-1.

Unlike slide-driven training, this programme is activity-led: you learn by auditing a realistic case-study company (GreenTech Manufacturing) through a full audit lifecycle, supported by interactive Nearpod exercises and live coaching from experienced lead auditors.

Delegates who successfully complete this course (within the five years before applying to become a certificated auditor) satisfy the training requirement for initial certification as an IRCA EMS auditor.

Frequently asked questions

What is the ISO 14001:2026 EMS Lead Auditor course?
It is a 40-hour, CQI and IRCA certified training course that gives you the knowledge and skills to plan, conduct, report and follow up audits of environmental management systems against ISO 14001:2026, in accordance with ISO 19011 and ISO/IEC 17021-1. It is delivered live online and is suitable as the training requirement for IRCA EMS auditor certification.
What is the difference between ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 14001:2026?
ISO 14001:2026 is the updated edition of the environmental management systems standard. This course is fully revised to the 2026 requirements and the current CQI/IRCA exam, so your training and certificate reflect the latest standard rather than the superseded 2015 version.
Who awards the exam and certificate?
The final examination is set and administered by CQI/IRCA. On passing, you receive a CQI/IRCA Certificate of Achievement. 3FOLD handles your exam registration and issues your certificate within 48 hours of receiving the result.
What is the format and duration of the exam?
The exam lasts 1 hour 45 minutes, with an additional 30 minutes for learners whose first language is not English. It contains objective questions — multiple choice, multiple answer and drag-and-drop — with no typed answers. It is open book; reference materials are allowed but question banks and internet browsing are not.
What is the passing score?
You need a minimum of 40% in each domain tested and at least 50% overall to pass.
When do I sit the exam, and is it included?
You sit the exam online within 30 days of completing the course. Your first attempt is included in the course fee. Sitting after 30 days is treated as a resit and an IRCA resit fee applies.
How is the course delivered?
Live online via Zoom, in an activity-led format using interactive Nearpod exercises and a continuous simulated audit of a case-study company. You can choose a 5-day or a 13-evening schedule — the content is identical.
Do I need prior experience or qualifications?
No prior auditing experience is needed. A basic understanding of ISO 14001 helps, and a free EMS prior-knowledge module and quiz are provided on the LMS to prepare you before the live sessions.
Will this course help me become a certified IRCA auditor?
Yes. Successful completion within the five years before applying satisfies the training requirement for initial certification as an IRCA EMS auditor. Your practical auditing experience is also required for certification.
How long is the certificate valid?
The Certificate of Achievement is valid for five years from the issue date for the purpose of registering with CQI/IRCA auditor membership.
